April 18-19, 2008
Satoki Yamamoto Track & Field, Wailuku, Maui
Dear Track Coach/Athletic Director,
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the 2008 Trojans Blue & Gold Invitational Track & Field Meet at the Satoki Yamamoto Track & Field Facility in Wailuku, April 18-19, 2008. The track and field meet includes trials, on Friday, April 18, at 4 p.m. The finals will be held Saturday, April 19, at 4 p.m. There will be a coaches meeting on both days at 3:30 p.m.
St. Anthony has a long history of track and field success both in the Maui Interscholastic League and at the HHSAA Championships. Last years meet was a great success which showcased many of the states top performers. The 2008 Trojans Blue & Gold Invitational Track & Field Meet again promises to be a memorable event. Added to the program this year is the Runner's Paradise 100-meter Challenge, featuring as many as six Olympic-caliber sprinters that have run 10.29 and faster.
While this meet is still relatively new in its current format, the Trojans Blue & Gold Invitational title has a unique history. About a decade ago, former St. Anthony Athletic Director Pat McCall started the Blue and Gold Meet to replace the Valley Isle All-Comers Meet, which was popular in the 1980s and early 1990s. After McCall left St. Anthony, Maui High School took
over the event and renamed it the Blue & White Meet. In respect to the history of the meet, St. Anthony has honored all previous best marks as established meet records and has converted all hand-timed marks to reflect (FAT) automatic timing.
The Maui Interscholastic League Track & Field Officials Association will assist us in running the meet, which is a scoring event. The head referee will again be Allan Fernandez, president of the MIL Track & Field Officials Association.
Team trophies will be awarded to the top schools in the boys and the girls divisions. The top three-place finishers -- in each event -- will receive medallions. Place finishers from fourth through sixth will receive ribbons. In addition, all participating teams will be asked to submit their choices for Most Outstanding Male and Female runner, and Most Outstanding Male and Female in the field events. The final four Most Outstanding individual awards are the Shane Victorino Awards.
The hardware is again being sponsored by St. Anthony alumni and former HHSAA 100m / 200m Champion and record-holder, Shane Victorino (1999). Shane is currently a star starting outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball. The medallions are being sponsored by Therapeutic Associates of Maui who is an outstanding supporter of youth athletics.
We welcome your participation in our meet which promises to showcase some outstanding high school athletes. If you have any questions please call St. Anthony Head Coach Bill Pacheco at 808-357-2953 or Meet Director Rodney Yap. The deadline to enter your respective school is Monday, March 31.
