(Wed) February 8, 2012

HHSAA Division II GIRLS BASKETBALL: No. 2 Kamehameha-Hawaii 57, Hawaii Baptist 42

Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Casey Poe got it done on both ends of the court against Hawaii Baptist.

Poe had 22 points, six steals and four blocks for the Warriors, who pulled away in the second half.

Most of Poe’s points came off drives to the basket.

“Casey got to the basket every time she got the ball,” said Kamehameha-Hawaii coach Garrett Arima. “Casey is the most efficient player on our team.”

Kamehameha-Hawaii will play the winner of Maryknoll/Kalani in the semifinals tonight at 7 at Radford.

The Warriors got separation with a 9-0 run for a 41-29 lead with 3:50 left in the third period.

Kamehameha extended the lead to 54-39 with 4:15 remaining after Bobbi Montibon’s field goal.

The Warriors finished with 12 steals.

“We kept our half-court trap on,” Arima said. “We worked on it all week.”

Jennifer Uehara and Lauren Sumida each scored nine points for Hawaii Baptist. Amber Au had nine rebounds.

Hawaii Baptist will play the loser of Maryknoll/Kalani in a consolation game tonight at 7 at Kalani.
