KAILUA -- Micah Kaneshiro completed 13 of 17 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns Friday night as Moanalua raced past Kailua, 46-13, in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference Eastern Division opener for both teams.

Na Menehune improved to 1-2 overall, while the Surfriders fell to 0-3.

Kailua led, 13-7, after Jarrin Young's 34-yard touchdown scamper on the first play of the second quarter, but Moanalua responded with 39 unanswered points over the next 35 minutes of game time.

Ishmil Scott scored on a 29-yard sprint up the gut three minutes later to tie it at 13-13, and Kaleo Yanai tacked on a 29-yard TD run to help Na Menehune take the lead for good with 2:49 remaining in the half. Tahi Caldwell then intercepted a pass on the second play of the Surfriders' ensuing possession, and Moanalua capitalized with a 41-yard touchdown strike to Donald Lambert just 39 seconds before the halftime whistle as Na Menehune took a comfortable 27-13 lead into the break.

The lead became more comfortable at 34-14 after Moanalua took the second half kickoff and zoomed 80 yards in just five plays, culminating in Kaneshiro's 6-yard screen pass to Jon-Michael which ended up in paydirt.

An errant punt snap on Kailua's next series gave Na Menehune the ball at the Surfriders' 11-yard line, and Richard Parham ran it in from 9 yards out two plays later to make it 40-13 with 6:52 still left in the third quarter.

Another interception later gave Na Menehune possession at the Kailua 32, and DJ Leatimua scored on an 11-yard touchdown run two plays into the fourth quarter to put Moanalua up, 46-13.

The Surfriders were intercepted four times and lost a fumble on the Moanalua 2-yard line.

Young finished with 111 yards on 15 carries, including 89 yards in the first half.
