HHSAA GOLF: Punahou & Baldwin Lead HHSAA/David Ishii State High School Golf Championship

North Shore, Oahu – Punahou Boys Golf Team lead the way after 18 holes at the HHSAA/David Ishii Golf Championship.  Punahou, who shot a team total 299 on Turtle Bay’s Palmer Course will take a 6 shot lead into Tuesday’s final round over Moanalua who sit at 305.  The Buffnblu team was lead by Brian Lee and Bradley Shigezawa who both carded a one over 73.

Leading individual scores in the Boy’s Championship was Kamehameha’s (B.I) Nainoa Calip who shot a one under 71 and has a one shot lead over Rudy Cabalar of Campbell and Thayer Schmitz of St Louis.  Calip who will be attending University of Hawaii in the fall, carded three bogeys and four birdies.     

In the Girls Championship, Punahou is tied for the lead at 229 with Maui’s Baldwin High School.  Punahou is being led by Alina Ching who shot a three over 75 on the Turtle Bay Resort’s George Fazio Course.  Baldwin’s top performer and individual leader is Senior Cassy Isagawa who shot a one over 73.  Isagawa, who doubled her opening hole bounced back with birdie on Fazio’s second hole and played even par for her remaining 16 holes.

Final round of the HHSAA/David Ishii continues Tuesday with Girls (Fazio) and Boys (Palmer) teeing off at 7:30.  Admission is free and spectators are welcome.

Turtle Bay Resort is Oahu’s only 36-hole golf resort and is host to many golf events throughout the year including Stage 1 & 2 PGA Tour Qualifying School, Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational and numerous junior events.  The Resort’s Palmer Course ranks as one of the Top 100 Public Golf Courses in America.
